How is history changing in America

How has History been changing throughout public schools

It's becoming more and more common to learn that history is the least thought subject at a public school. School teachers don't bother to teach the students history as they are not garded as high as math and english. As kids advanced each year they will miss out on important history that has occurred in the country and world. This then takes their ability to create themselves their own perspective on the issue as the lack knowledge.

Mexicans perspective on the battle of the alamo

The begin first let's understand the history and important figures that Mexico has gone through until 1836. First of all Mexico was part of spain until September 27, 1821 after defeating the Spaniards and Mexico gained its independence. The new nation had began conquering land that belonged to spain and Tejas was New Spain and under control by Mexico from 1821-1836. The leader that would lead the young nation's army was General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna who was also former president of Mexico. Colonel Jose Enrique de la Pena an important figure in the Alamo Battle as he kept a diary that would describe the events from that day.

Now that we know a bit about Mexico's history let's understand the Battle of the Alamo from Mexico's perspective. General Santa Anna and former president wanted to expand Mexico and regain what was theirs. General Santa Anna would take this as a challenge to prove to his people how great of a leader he was. Which would influence his decisions to battle the Texians to show that the young nation is not weak as they parted from Spain. They also implied no prisoner rule to show their ruthless and to be feared. The General would almost do anything to not let Mexico down and make him look a fool. Meanwhile Colonel José Enrique de la Pena had different views that his General and the government. On the day of the Battle for the Alamo the Colonel kept a diary of the events that occurred that day. His diary would never be found until in the 1950s. Only when Davy Crockett's fame would from from a Disney movie did they the Colonel's diary appear. In the diary it would change history as most people thought of it during the Battle for the Alamo. According to the diary Davy Crockett did not die in the battle field with his men and die a hero protecting Tejas. Crockett supposedly surrendered to the Mexicans in order to save himself from death. Running his fame and changing people's view on him as a coward and disgrace for surrendering. Many people believed that and even experienced and writing experts that ought to be true and no forgery was done. Not until 1997 when Charles Hamilton finally declared the diary to be forged as he found traces from the froger with other work he's done. They were similar and was able to finally help Crocket be remembered as the Hero he was. Now let's say he is wrong and the Colonel possibly lied in his diary. I would not believe that to be true as he was always opposed to the Mexican government. Why would he try to make Crockett look as a cowered when that would only benefit Mexico. After the war Jose Enrique de la Pena would go to prison and the missing from history records. Not much is known on to what happened to him has he was against the ways of the new government.

Modern Day Connection

Schools are reducing the amount of history that is required in a teacher's curriculum for the year. Younger students will have less history knowledged than one who graduated 8 years ahead. Schools are required less to test students on history which is why it's pushed assigned to a minimum. We are limiting the students that are going to school to get an education to understand why certain events happen and how the past affects the the present. Why will not be able to understand clearly the history and will go with a perspective that they hear as they do not understand the full situation. We are essentially giving them a point of view to go by and whether it's right or wrong that's how they will think.
