What Does It Take to End This War?
The war in Afghanistan has lasted for 16 years, and yet we are still fighting. Based on my research, I have found an article on Trumps opinion on what action we should take to end this war. According to president Trump, we should send more troops to Afghanistan to train in Afghan forces. Back in 2001, this war happened because Afghan leaders wouldn't hand over Osama Bin Laden. The United States believes that Bin Laden was the cause of the terrorists attacks back in September of 2001. In November of 2001 the capital Kabul, Afghanistan was taken over the by the Northern Alliance followed by the US and other countries who agreed with the United States's opinion about 9/11.
Why is sending more troops necessary?
In order to stop this 16- year conflict between America and Afghanistan, Trump wants to take action into sending more troops to train “Afghan forces there, with the goal of convincing the Taliban — which has recently gained substantial ground in the war — that they could not win on the battlefield.” This would then lead to the United States putting new pressure on Pakistan to “crack down the terrorist sanctuaries.” Trumps plan was very similar to Obama’s, however Trump promised to avoid Obama’s mistakes. His main focus to end this war was to send more troops to train in Afghanistan and to focus more on military force, and diplomacy of pressure on Pakistan. In the end, Trumps plan succeeded and hopefully the United States can come out a victor after 16 long years of war.
In my opinion this war needs to end because of all the foreign conflicts going on. Families at home are worried about their soldiers in Afghanistan, but yet we have no knowledge of what is happening. In the many years of fighting Afghanistan a couple months after 9/11, we have only managed to find Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan where he was shot and killed in 2011. Ever since then, we are helping the government build a stable nation.
How does this connect to the Battle of Gonzales?
Back in 1836 when the Battle of Gonzales started, the Texas Revolution was rising. Back in 1831 Green Dewitt promised the return of the cannon to Mexico. However, the Texians refused. By this refusal, it started a skirmish between Mexico and the Texians because Mexico only loaned them the cannon because of the indian raids. However, the Texians wanted to keep the cannon because the indian raids still existed. Even though this battle only lasted a few hours, this shows that even in the past we had troubles to face. If one country or state refuses to give up something and the other side doesn't believe them, then they can force either military action or send troops to put force on the other country/state to get what they want. The end result is war because one country/state is fighting for their perspective and the other country is trying to defend their opinion. Since the Texians broke the promise that was made in 1831, this led to a small battle between the Texians and Mexico. This battle shows that we had foreign conflicts because of the different opinions on what each country believed.
Today in American society, we are facing foreign conflicts with Afghanistan. This foreign conflict has been a continuous fight for 16 years. When Trump was elected president, he decided that these conflicts should be put to rest. As president, he promised to avoid making Obama’s mistakes on how to win this battle. However, Trumps strategies are no different than Obama’s. Trumps reasoning to help the American troops in Pakistan is to focus on military force and the diplomatic pressure on Pakistan. In order to lead us to victory, he believes that we should send more American troops to Afghanistan. By sending these troops, this will allow them to get more training on Afghan Forces. However, families are worried at home because of this war and our country wants to remain at peace. With this war however, this peace will not exist. By allowing these troops to ship off to Afghanistan, this will make warfare increase and create a political crisis. All we can do right now is use military force to persuade Pakistan and hope for the best.
My claim on the war in Afghanistan is that we must send more troops to Afghanistan to raise pressure to Pakistan, so that the troops can train in the Afghan Forces and to crack down the terrorists sanctuaries. I support Trump because this war as been going far enough. This is the longest war in America's century. We need to end this war so families can live a happier life than sitting at home and having concerns about what's happening across the world. Our country needs peace and I believe we can do it!!!!!!
